description

The work starts from electron micrographs of microscopic animals and their textured skins. From there a catalogue of small surface studies is generated: folded sheets, curled shells, perforated lumps, each modeled at the same scale and laid out in a grid.

The studies are then worked into closed bodies. Spheres are wrapped in banded skins and pierced with openings. A paneled globe grows hexagonal cells on stems. Close renders move into the surface, where fine scale-like texture covers every fold and rim. At that distance there is no telling whether the form is an organism, a building, or terrain. The surface carries most of the information.
